Repository description.

Records of the Department of Anthropology consist of correspondence files of curators elucidating their research projects, letters from the field, and museum and departmental administrative affairs; field notes of curators and collectors as well as their research notes and some manuscripts. Catalogs and accession documentation pertain to the scientific collections. There are also raw data for anthropometric studies, and illustrations for publications. Photographs depict aerial and ground views of archaeological site and other features of Peru. Much of the archival material focuses on American Indians, although peoples across the world are represented. Archaeology and cultural anthropology are emphasized more than physical anthropology. Most records date from the 1890s to 1940s although many collections continue to the present.
